13 people have been questioned by the drug squad in connection with four separate cases. Theses incidents started on Saturday with a raid on a bar in Birkirkara after reports were received that drugs were being sold within the bar itself. When the police arrived, the barman, a 33-year-old man from Floriana, was seen trying to dispose of a capsule containing around 10 grams of cocaine. The barman and a 39-year-old woman from Zejtun, were both arrested. The second raid happened on Sunday afternoon on the Floriana granaries. Nine men between the ages of 19 and 27 were arrested during an organised party, after they were found to be carrying cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy. Two of these men are being accused of drug trafficking.
On Wednesday, a 32-year-old Libyan man was arrested in connection with the discovery of 3.4 kilograms of heroin at the airport on September 17. One Maltese woman and three more Libyan men had already been arrested in connection to the event.
The final incident occurred on Thursday morning when a 35-year-old man from Gambia seemed to be acting suspiciously after arriving on a flight from Girona, Spain. The man was held and later found to be carrying 250 grams of cocaine in his stomach.
The man did not admit to the charges brought against him in court but has been denied bail.

Police arrested a Senegalese man after they found 460 grams of cocain in his possession. The 29-year-old man arrived on board a flight from Girona, Spain and was arrested shortly after a search by police and customs officers.The drug was found separated into two small packets and hidden in a pair of shoes within the luggage. Two other packets were found in the shoes he was wearing.The magistrate on duty Miriam Hayman ordered further investigations and the man is to be arraigned today.
In the previous weeks two Nigerian men were also found carrying illegal substances aboard an incoming flight.

Police Vice Squad has arrested three people in the Zabbar Housing Estate

Police Vice Squad has arrested three people in the Zabbar Housing Estate, in connection with cocaine and heroin trafficking. Reports of drug trading were received on Sunday morning, resulting in the arrest of a 31-year-old from Valletta and a 39-year-old from Zejtun. A bit later, the police arrested the man who was selling the drugs, a 22-year-old man who was already known to the police. He was found to be in possession of packets filled with cocaine and heroin, ready to be sold. Other related objects were also found in his home.

Malta drug smugglers Egyptian resident in Bugibba and a Libyan

The police have arrested a number of persons after wrapping up two investigations into the importation and trafficking on heroin and cannabis resin.A 28-year-Hungarian who arrived in Malta from Brussels on Tuesday was tailed by the police and was stopped on Wednesday when he boarded a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old Maltese woman from Qormi. Both were held. A search revealed that the man was carrying a capsule with heroin inside, the police said. A medical examination at Mater Dei Hospital revealed a further 30 capsules in his stomach. In all, some 300 grams of heroin were seized and Magistrate Silvio Meli launched an inquiry.
The man was arraigned in court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking.
In the second case, the police said they had been following the movements of a number of persons for some days. They initially found a kilo and a half of cannabis resin in the car of a 27-year-old man from Naxxar, at Qammiegh, limits of Mellieha.
A further five kilos of cannabis resin were found in a garage in Mosta and another two men were arrested, a 32-year-old from St Paul’s Bay and a 40-year-old from Mosta.
Also held were a 39-year-old Egyptian resident in Bugibba and a Libyan, 26, also living in Bugibba.An inquiry was launched by Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani and the men were taken to court..
